Settling a quick debate from my 7–3: when a resident has right-sided weakness, do you put the shirt on the weak side first or last? I’ve always done weak side first because it’s simpler — does that match how you were taught?
I’m with you on weak side first on 7–3, and my go-to is to bunch the sleeve like a donut and slide it over the weak hand while it’s resting on a pillow, then pull to the elbow before sitting them forward. Small caveat: if there’s an IV or shoulder subluxation, I still do “weak side first” but pick a button-down to avoid overhead. You using pullovers or cardigans on your floor?
On 7–3 I keep it simple: “affected arm first” — slide the sleeve over a pillow‑supported right hand, then roll them toward you to pull it across the back and seat the shoulder. Caveat: if there’s an IV/sling or high tone on that side, use a button‑down or adaptive top and let them set the pace.
