Revamping Skills Labs for Better Engagement

I’ve been exploring new ways to enhance our CNA skills labs, and I’m excited about implementing simulation scenarios that mirror real-life situations more closely. I think engaging our students with tools like high-fidelity manikins can make a significant difference in their learning experience. Has anyone else tried this approach, and if so, what tools or techniques have worked best for you?

I’ve found that using high-fidelity manikins really boosts engagement — just be ready for the higher costs. Have you tried incorporating peer feedback during simulations?

It’s great to hear you’re exploring simulation! I once incorporated scenario-based discussions after a skills lab, and it helped reinforce learning by letting students connect theory to practice. Maybe consider adding a bit of real-time feedback as they simulate; it can make a world of difference in their confidence, like having a GPS while driving.

I totally agree that high-fidelity manikins enhance engagement… We integrated them into our evening classes last semester, and the students really connected with the scenarios. One thing I’ve noticed is the importance of timing; giving students more time for debriefs after each simulation made a huge difference.
